Claim Your Land

Joshua 1:6 – “Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.”

The ancient river of Lakhish flows down from the biblical cities of Hebron and Lakhish, all the way to Ashdod, and onwards to the Mediterranean Sea. In Joshua 15 we read the allotment of land to the tribe of Judah by the Lord God, including the city of Ashdod and the surrounding areas. The problem was that these lands were in the hands of the Philistines, and the Israelites had to wage war and claim the land allotted to them by God. It wasn’t handed to them on a silver platter. There was work to be done to claim the promise of God!

What has God promised you? What destiny has God given into your hands? Whatever it is that God has promised you, you need to go and take possession of it. Deal with any opposition, with the enemy, and all obstacles. Fight them even if they’re strong. God will fight with you and overcome the enemy, but He’s waiting on you to take that step of faith.

When the Israelites went out to wage war, they didn’t lay claim to all the lands promised to them by God. Ashdod was one of the strongholds that they didn’t fight for, nor did they even try to take it.

So they didn’t follow God’s instructions and because of their compromise, the Philistines grew stronger and stronger, and the Israelites suffered greatly for it. Ashdod was eventually claimed by Israel, but not according to God’s timetable though.

When God speaks to you, when He gives your directions, when He tells you exactly what to do and how to do it, you had better do it! It is always worth obeying God. The alternate never works out well for us. Maybe today there are strongholds, obstacles, and challenges in your life. God is telling us not to look at them with our physical eyes, but with the eyes of our heart through faith. Move out by faith in the Spirit and lay claim to God’s promises.

If we compromise, eventually we will pay a heavy price and we will have regrets. It’s a blessing to obey God and He always makes all things work together for good to us who love Him and are the called according to His Word. Maybe it’s your business. Maybe it is your family. Maybe it’s your friends or relatives that need salvation. Don’t give up, but just keep pressing on and keep doing what God told you to do. You will see the breakthrough of our God because He is the God of the breakthrough. Hallelujah!

Prayer:

Lord, I pray that you would give me the courage to follow Your direction, to do what You called me to do. Let the anointing and power of the Holy Spirit saturate me, so that I may lay hold of every promise that you have given me. I pray this in Yeshua/Jesus’ name. Amen.
