With only a week away from Thanksgiving, we feel the need to stop and reflect on the very meaning of thanksgiving and gratitude. Why are we encouraged to have an attitude of gratitude, even in the face of difficulties and challenges? Can it be that thanksgiving is a key that opens the door to blessings in our lives?
Thanksgiving is not just a holiday or a special day; it’s a Christlike way of life. The more we thank God for his wonderful work in our lives, the more reasons we find to be thankful. It’s a never ending beautiful cycle of thanks, that enables us to stay focused on the Lord.
“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
Giving thanks by giving back
As you and your loved ones are preparing to celebrating such a wonderful occasion when you get to count your blessings and thank God for His goodness, we want to remind you a powerful scripture that speaks of generous giving that blooms from a thankful heart.
“You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.”
2 Corinthians 9:11
The Lord himself says that your thanksgiving results in generosity (the desire to give back), and that in return produces even greater fruit of thanksgiving in those who were blessed by your generosity. It’s a fail proof system that God created where thanksgiving produces more thanksgiving through generosity; of both the giver and the receiver.
God also said that the reason he continuously enriches us, is so that we can be generous on every occasion. Our focus on God and his blessings in our lives lead us to give thanks through giving back to those who might not have much. Our generous acts of giving produce even greater thankfulness in the hearts of those in need, and it multiplies thanksgiving that God receives.
Wouldn’t you want to be a part of a never ending flow of thanks offered to God? According to the scriptures, It’s as simple as giving thanks by giving back. It is also a way of honoring God by honoring Israel — His firstborn, the remnant of His work.
“…The people of Israel — Theirs is the adoption to sonship; theirs the divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of the law, the temple worship and the promises. Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of the Messiah, who is God over all, forever praised!”
“For Macedonia and Achaia were pleased to make a contribution for the poor among the Lord’s people in Jerusalem. They were pleased to do it, and indeed they owe it to them. For if the Gentiles have shared in the Jews’ spiritual blessings, they owe it to the Jews to share with them their material blessings.”
Be intentional with your generosity by giving your best gift today to support an Israeli family in great need; whether it helping feed a newly immigrated Jewish family, dignifying holocaust survivors, or being a part of any of the important ministry work we do in the land of Israel — know that your seed will produce a great fruit of thanksgiving in the hearts of those who will experience God’s love through your generosity!
