Then the men rose from there and looked toward Sodom, and Abraham went with them to send them on the way.
Genesis 18:16The story is about 3 angels that come to Abraham, and he showed them wonderful middle eastern hospitality; welcoming them, feeding them from his finest, taking care of them as though they were family — a beautiful illustration of what true hospitality looks like. The interesting thing is that angels came to Abraham dressed like ordinary men, he didn’t even recognize them as God’s messengers. They released a prophecy over his fatherhood to Isaac, and they headed to Sodom, which is today’s Dead Sea area. At this point, a powerful conversation takes place between the Lord and the angels visiting Abraham.
And the LORD said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing? Since Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice, that the LORD may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.
Genesis 18:17-18Think about your own life. If God promised that Abraham is not only to become a great nation but that the rest of the nations of the earth will be impacted and blessed by him, his calling and heritage. You are a man or woman of God, chosen and called by the Lord Himself. Can you imagine that you could be just as chosen and called as Abraham was, to impact the world in a big way? God could be speaking to his messenger angels right now about your life and your destiny. We see all throughout the Bible what important part angels play in our lives. They carry messages with them, they engage in spiritual warfare, etc. You are called by God and are important to Him, and just as He used Abraham to impact nations, He could be using you for a greater impact on the world around you. He even makes angels available for us when needed. Our focus is on God and the work of the Holy Spirit, which He Himself reveals to us, yet we see the in Book of Acts angelic manifestations, as well as throughout the Old Testament many stories of their visitations. Perhaps there were moments in your life when you knew the angels of the Lord were involved, just as they were walking in this Dead Sea area, maybe the same way angels were also walking into your life on many occasions, delivering messages or keeping guard, whatever the Lord sent them to do for you. They were involved in God’s conversation regarding the call of Abraham, perhaps the same way they are involved in your own calling. The uniqueness of Abraham’s calling is also in him knowing and acknowledging the importance of generational imparting, disciplining of his children and descendants. He understood the mission he was given: to invest in discipling and teaching his descendants, all the way to the last generation. It is one of our core missions here in Israel as both a local ministry, as well as international ministry: to invest heavily in the next generation, to equip, to disciple, and to train those that will follow our footsteps and become carriers of revival in the nation of Israel in the last days. I encourage you to pray that not only our generation, but the next generation, your children, and grandchildren will walk in God’s calling and commands, serving the Lord with all their hearts as descendants of Abraham — Father of the nations. I pray for our children and grandchildren, that whenever they are currently in life, whatever spiritual condition they’re in, we stand in faith that they will serve the Lord. We will continue to pray for them all the days of our lives because just like Abraham, we understand the importance of the heritage given to us by God in our children. Amen!
