Have you ever prayed about something for a long time and wondered if God was really listening? Maybe you’ve been asking Him to help you with a difficult situation, praying for someone you love, or waiting for an answer that just doesn’t seem to come. You know that God is faithful, but sometimes it’s hard not to feel discouraged when nothing seems to change.
There’s a beautiful Hebrew expression that reminds us of something we all need to hear from time to time. It’s Karov Adonai (קָרוֹב יְהוָה, pronounced kah-ROV ah-doh-NAI), meaning “The LORD is near.” The word karov comes from the Hebrew root karav (קרב), meaning “to come near” or “to draw close.” It’s a simple reminder that God is not far away or unaware of what’s happening in our lives.
In Psalm 145:18, David writes:
“The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.”
Psalm 145:18 (NIV)
David knew what it meant to go through difficult times. He faced enemies, betrayal, fear, and many situations where he didn’t know how things would turn out. If you read through the Psalms, you’ll see that he wasn’t afraid to tell God exactly how he felt. Sometimes he was full of praise, and other times he was frightened or discouraged. But through it all, he kept turning to the Lord.
There’s something we can learn from that. We sometimes make prayer more complicated than it needs to be. We feel that we should have the right words or that we shouldn’t keep bringing the same problems before God. But He already knows what’s in our hearts. We don’t need to hide our worries or pretend that everything is fine when it isn’t.
We see this same heart of God in Yeshua. Throughout His ministry, He drew near to people who were hurting, lonely, and struggling to find hope. He listened to them, cared for them, and showed them the love of their heavenly Father. And before returning to the Father, Yeshua gave His disciples a wonderful promise in Matthew 28:20: “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” His words remind us that we are never left to walk through life on our own.
God’s nearness isn’t something we need only when life is difficult. We need Him just as much in our everyday lives, when we’re busy with work, spending time with family, or making decisions. The same God who hears us when we’re desperate for help also welcomes us when we come to Him with thanksgiving and joy.
Whatever you’re facing this week, remember Karov Adonai. The Lord is near. You may not have all the answers you’re looking for, but you can come to Him with an honest heart, knowing that He hears you and cares about you.
Our prayer this week: Heavenly Father, thank You that You are near to those who call upon You. Thank You for Yeshua and His promise to always be with us. Help us to trust You when things are difficult and to remember You in the good times as well. Teach us to come before You with honest hearts and to rest in Your love and faithfulness. In Yeshua’s name, Amen.
