The Shaking of this World: Earthquakes in Israel — רעש אדמה

For thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land; and I will shake all nations.

Haggai 2:6

Recently two major earthquakes were felt in Israel, in the Galilee region. It comes at a very interesting time when we are witnessing great changes, shifts, and restructuring of the foundations. God says he will shake it all. Earthquake in Hebrew is “Ra’ash Adama”, and “ra’ash” also means noise, as well as shaking. Just as God promised: He will shake the nations, through earthquakes, but also through loud noise. There’s still a great big shaking that is coming, but the good news for us, believers, is knowing we are building our lives on an unshakable foundation of the Rock which is Yeshua himself! When tribulations will come and shake this world to the core, we will not be shaken as the world will, because we are standing on solid foundation — Jesus, the Rock of our salvation.

…and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory,’ says the Lord of hosts.

Haggai 2:7

It’s all about God’s glory, all the shaking will serve to reveal God’s glory. As I was preaching at our Shabbat service about this very scripture and the need for the people of God to prepare for the shaking that is to come, only two days later Israel experienced two earthquakes, one after another.

The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,’ says the Lord of hosts. ‘The glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the former,’ says the Lord of hosts. ‘And in this place I will give peace,’ says the Lord of hosts.

Haggai 2:8

It might seem like this specific verse is a bit out of context in this Scripture, but God is speaking about the revelation of His glory. The Lord is making a strong proclamation here, that nothing material on this earth belongs to man, but all of it belongs to God. The reason for the verse here, which might seem a bit taken out of context, is to remind us that when things will be shaken, economies, nations, etc. God is reminding us that He is our source, the One everything belongs to, and He is the One who will provide for us when the time comes. Don’t be afraid, even in the midst of violent shaking, God is present and He will provide, so the whole world sees His glory as the One who owns gold and silver, and all things. He brings us back to the concept of His glory, promising us that the glory of the latter temple will be greater than that of the former. We are His temple! He promises that His glory in us is so much greater than anything this world has seen before. God is preparing to shake up the foundations and reveal His glory!
