When you meet people who are fleeing unimaginable circumstances, leaving the only life they knew behind, you can’t help but admire their courage. Then you see the magnitude of their current needs of starting a brand-new life in Israel, and hearing them say: “We heard Christians really help people, do you think they can help us?” — it makes you realize that it’s true; They will know us by our love!
Israel is currently experiencing a tremendous influx of olim (immigrants) from war-stricken Ukraine. Alongside the biblical significance of return of Jewish people to Israel there is the practical aspect of the actual Aliyah and the challenges it represents for Jewish families that arrive in Israel with nothing more than a small suitcase in which they try to fit their whole life.
Many are families that consist of either a mother and small children, with the father having to stay behind in Ukraine, or larger families of 3 kids whose father was allowed to join them. These families flee with practically just the clothes on their backs, arrive in Israel and desperately seek anyone that could help with even their smallest needs. The daily things we rely on and take for granted as part of our lives, aren’t a reality for these families. Things like: bedding, towels, blankets, kettle, fan may seem small and basic to us, but to those who arrive scared, unsure of their future and holding everything the own in their small suitcase, they become a luxury.
Currently, there are over 50 new families arriving in Ashdod every month, and with your generous support, we are helping many of them. This month we aim to help 50 “new” families with a special “Starter Kit” containing not only food items, but also care packages containing a variety of home essentials customized for each family’s needs.
These kits were well thought out and put together taking into consideration these families’ immediate needs. Each kit includes a selection of items such as: kitchen supplies, kettle, bedding, pillows, toaster, towels, utensils, etc. These are things many of us take for granted but will change the lives of those who arriving with nothing.
Consider providing at least one family with a Starter Kit through a gift of $150 or more, so we can reach the goal to supply 50 families this month with important basics they currently go without. Let them see your love for them and it that, they see the love of Yesua!
