Hebrew Word of the Week —
Gevurah (גְּבוּרָה) —
Strength That Comes From God

There are seasons when our strength feels small — when the load is heavy, the challenges keep coming, and our hearts whisper, “I don’t know if I can keep going.”

In moments like these, Scripture gives us the Hebrew word Gevurah (גְּבוּרָה, ge-voo-RAH) — a word that means divine strength, courage, and overcoming power. It comes from the root gavar, “to prevail,” reminding us that true strength is not something we generate — it’s something God gives.

📖 Biblical Foundation

Psalm 29 declares:

“The Lord gives strength (gevurah) to His people.”

Psalm 29:11

Throughout the Bible, this is the strength that lifted David against Goliath, sustained Elijah in discouragement, and gave courage to Joshua when he stepped into the unknown.

✨ Why It Matters

The clearest picture of gevurah is found in Yeshua.

His strength wasn’t loud or showy. It was steady, humble, unshakable — the strength to love, to forgive, to endure, and to save. The strength to kneel and wash feet, and the strength to carry the cross that none of us could bear. This is the same strength He offers us today.

When we feel weak, He doesn’t tell us to try harder — He invites us to lean on Him. When our courage fades, He reminds us that His power is made perfect in weakness. Maybe you’re facing something right now that feels beyond your strength — a burden, a decision, a prayer that weighs heavily on your heart.

Take comfort in this: gevurah is not the strength of your will. It is the strength of Yeshua alive in you. Strength to stand. Strength to endure. Strength to trust one more day. It is the strength that comes from God.

🙏 A Prayer

Lord Yeshua, thank You for being my gevurah. When my strength runs low, fill me with Yours. Give me courage, endurance, and the power to keep walking with You. Let Your strength be seen in my life today.
