A Father Finds Faith

A Father Finds Faith

“There is a great chasm between man and God, and the only way to cross it is through the cross of Jesus the Messiah, who reconciled us to the Father.”

Luke 16:26

Haim’s words hung in a quiet yet sacred balance. He declared this bold statement with confidence as he sat with father and son, Alec and Shimon. Shimon, a long-time congregation member at Voice of Judah Israel, had often shared with our ministry his burden for his elderly father to know the Lord. Our team visited them recently at Shimon’s home while they were distributing food and praying with families affected by the war. VOJI has witnessed trauma, displacement, and deep needs in Israel since the war with Iran broke out in June. The Lord has provided many sacred and miraculous moments, though, too. This was one of them.

Decades Fell in a Divine Moment

God had been working on Alec’s heart and had heard Shimon’s prayers over the years for his father’s salvation. Shimon had shared the Gospel, lived as a witness, and waited. Then one day, in the midst of war, the door opened. It was the sacred moment he had been praying for all these years. Alec was the first to greet Haim and then fellow VOJI team member, Sergey. Sergey opened the conversation and Haim silently prayed for the Lord’s guidance and the right words. “Chasm” was the key word the Lord gave him, and in obedience, said those words that would change eternity for Alec.

Haim’s words of wisdom landed on Alec’s prepared heart, but he was initially hesitant. Haim offered to pray with Alec to invite Yeshua into his heart. Decades of distance and doubt made it hard to say yes. However, Shimon spoke with boldness and love for his father with a simple plea, “Papa, these men came just for you. Let’s pray.”

In this divine moment, decades of hesitation fell at the feet of the Lord.

In that moment, surrounded by the noise of distant sirens and the heaviness of war, this nearly 90-year-old man humbled himself before the Lord and prayed. He called upon the name of Yeshua, inviting Him into his heart. It was the beginning of a new journey, a quiet miracle, and a moment Heaven will never forget. After the prayer, Alec looked at the team with deep sincerity and gratitude. He thanked them for visiting. With tears in his eyes, Shimon later shared that once the intensity of this war ends, his father plans to attend Sergey’s home group. So late in life, yet so much is just beginning for Alec. It’s never too late.
