Assuming YOUR Calling as Watchmen on the Walls of Jerusalem

I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; They shall never hold their peace day or night.

Isaiah 62:6

One of the great privileges of living in Israel is having so many biblical sites in close proximity. We are blessed that we are able to visit Jerusalem often and perform our priestly duty of being watchmen on the walls of the city of God.

As we walk around and pray, we are reminded of the watchmen in biblical times, whose duty was to stand guard and watch for any possible intruders or danger. They were the guards and protectors of the city. They were also tasked to watch for blessings and provisions approaching the city, so they would open the gates for it.

Yet, the Bible also speaks about watchmen on the walls of Jerusalem as prayer warriors. It’s not even just about Israel, but also the nations. Watchmen were placed to watch over God’s own.

That is God’s call for Israel and all the nations; to become watchmen on His walls. To watch, be alert, keep vigil, and be prepared for what is coming.

I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem… You who make mention of the LORD, do not keep silent!

Isaiah 62:6

He calls us to never keep silent as watchmen on His walls but to keep praying day and night for God to fulfill all His plans and purposes for His people.

As we walk alongside the ancient walls of Jerusalem, we do just that: praying, proclaiming, prophesying, and reading His promises and prophecies in the old days and for the future. We release God’s power through our prayers as watchmen on His walls.

That is the calling of every believer. Whether you live in Israel or on the other side of the world. His calling you to become a watchman on the walls of Jerusalem.
