A Very Real Weight to Bear
These children often come from families who have paid a steep price. Their homes and communities were shaken by rocket fire, forcing some to flee. Many have fathers serving in the war, as Reservists, and may be away during school year preparations and even the first day of school.
These families have spent nights under rocket fire while awaiting text messages, updates and safe returns of their fathers. The weight these kids carry is invisible to most, but it’s very real. The beginning of a new school year should be filled with joyful anticipation. Instead of shopping for backpacks and school supplies, many families are struggling to cover rent and put food on the table. They may have endured a stretch of even being unable to work over the summer due to the rocket fire.
