Came Down to Prayer

Their newfound faith led them to be baptized in the Jordan River, marking a pivotal moment in their spiritual lives. However, after their baptism, Miri and Alexander seemed to disappear from our community and ministry activities. Unable to reach them and deeply troubled by their absence, the team gathered together and began to pray for the lost couple, beseeching the Lord for their return. A prayer that would be answered in a most remarkable way!

New Olim
Miri and Alexander are new Jewish immigrants (olim chadashim) from Belarus who arrived in Israel one year ago. They heard about the Beit Hallel Congregation’s humanitarian outreach projects through other immigrants and reached out for our assistance. Upon their first visit, they were instantly by the spirit of servanthood of our team members and their love for the poor and those in need.
They quickly became friends of our congregation, volunteering alongside our humanitarian outreach team and helping to serve others in the communities of our city. The turning point came when they joined the Alpha Course and began the journey to understanding Yeshua. Their eyes were opened to His saving grace and joined by several other new believers from the class, they made the decision to embrace salvation by being baptized in the Jordan River. We wept tears of joy as our newfound friends were received into the family of God. However, this joy would be short-lived. Our newest brother and sister suddenly stopped volunteering and coming to our events.

Prayer Made the Difference
It was a period of great concern and uncertainty for us. We tried many times to contact them but were unsuccessful. Then, prompted by the Holy Spirit, we began to pray earnestly for Miri and Alexander,

along with all those who had been baptized in the Jordan River the previous month. We asked the Lord, on their behalf, that they would continue to follow Yeshua and grow as His disciples.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18. “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Then, in a beautiful answer to our prayers, this couple returned to our very next Shabbat service! When we reunited, Miri was overwhelmed with joy and tears. She shared how they had gone through a time of intense turmoil forcing them to withdraw from others and shift their entire focus on dealing with their problems. However, just a few days before, she and Alexander both woke up with a new fire in their hearts. The Lord had reignited their desire to be part of Beit Hallel Congregation. So strong was the pull to attend our Shabbat service; they had literally run to the service on foot. Miri’s heartfelt declaration was that this was the result of our prayers, and a powerful reminder to all of us of God’s faithfulness.

Good Desire
Glory to the Lord for placing the desire to pray for others in our hearts and for bringing those who are being saved into His Church. This testimony of Miri and Alexander is a profound reminder of the power of prayer, the importance of community, and the transformative love of Jesus. We are grateful to witness such miracles and look forward to seeing how God continues to work in their lives and in our community. Amen!
