Anya (name change) was a single mother struggling to make ends meet. Leaving her country to make Aliyah (return to her homeland) to Israel was the hardest decision she ever made that took every dime she had. But the safety of her children was more important than anything. She had no idea it would take such a long time to get back on her feet. Also, the challenge of the language barrier was making it quite difficult to find a job. If it had not been for the kindness of others, there was no telling how they would have survived. As now it is time for the children to go back to school, she had no idea where she would get the money for supplies. The young woman held her face in her hands, weeping over the heartbreak her kids would feel when she had to tell them there was no money for the supplies that they so needed to start school.
Typical Story
Sadly, this is a typical story of the reality many of the single mothers and impoverished families throughout Israel. They are struggling just to put food on the table. There is simply no extra money for a child’s backpack, supplies, or textbooks. In families with more than two or three children at school, it’s an expense they simply cannot bear. That is why we have designed our Back to School Project. We want these families to know that God sees their struggles and they are not alone.
You might be tempted to think a project like this would not have the impact of an evangelism event, but we have witnessed over the years that our Back to School Project touches people in a unique way.
