Pastor Israel celebrates this eighth day festival with a blessing from Isaiah 43!

Is there another lesser-known fall feast day hidden in the scriptures? Israel’s seven Feasts of The Lord are well known by Jews and most Christians. The four Spring Feasts begin the year with Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits and Pentecost. The Feast of Trumpets, Day of Atonement and Feast of Tabernacles are the next three feasts celebrated in the Fall, however, there is one more festive day, hidden in the celebration of Feast of Tabernacles. It is called the eighth day, more commonly known today as Simchat Torah.

Simchat Torah is a Jewish festival that marks the end of the yearly cycle of reading the Torah and the beginning of a fresh cycle. It is also referred to as “Celebrating the Torah“. Although Simchat Torah is not as noted as the Biblical Feast of The Lord, it follows the Biblical directive in Leviticus 23:36 to hold a sacred gathering on the eighth day of the Feast of Tabernacles. Jewish tradition holds that this is the day when Moses shared the Ten Commandments from the Lord with the Israelites, symbolizing new beginnings.

“I have summoned you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you. When you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;” Isaiah 43:1-3

In this verse God tells His people:
I CREATED YOU
I HAVE BUILT YOU
I HAVE BLESSED YOU

The celebration of Simchat Torah can be a lesson for Christians as well. We are also blessed and chosen to be His people through His Son, Yeshua. We can take a valuable lesson from the Jewish celebration of this day. God is there in the beginning and will be there in the end. Whatever we are going through, fire or water, God will be there. As the Jewish people begin their new season of reading through the Torah, let us use this time to read through our Bibles, taking in the promises God has made for all His children.
