Purim is one of Israel’s most beloved holidays, filled with joy and celebration. Children delight in dressing up in colorful costumes, while adults join in the festivities, exchanging gifts of food and drink with friends and neighbors. But, at its heart, Purim is also a time of spiritual reflection, remembering God’s faithfulness to deliver His people from evil hands and highlighting the transformative power of prayer and fasting.
The story of Esther is a powerful demonstration to faith and courage. As a young Jewish girl trapped in a perilous position, Esther faced the overwhelming task of saving her people from certain death. Yet, instead of giving up hope, she turned to prayer and fasting, trusting in God’s divine plan. Esther’s remarkable example inspires us to pray and fast with unwavering faith and perseverance, even in the most challenging circumstances.
One of the most fascinating things about the book of Esther is that God’s name isn’t mentioned even once. And yet, His fingerprints are on every page. That’s why, on Purim, people dress in costumes—to remind us that just like in Esther’s story, God may sometimes seem hidden, but He is always at work.
