It’s a wonderful feeling to know that someone is looking out for you. Perhaps you’ve experienced this through a caring parent, a good friend, or someone who was there when you needed a little help. Knowing that someone cares about us and wants the best for us can make such a difference in our lives.
The Bible reminds us that we have someone who cares for us even more deeply than we can imagine. Our Heavenly Father knows us, loves us, and watches over us every day.
One beautiful Hebrew expression that reminds us of this is Adonai Shomrecha (יְהוָה שֹׁמְרֶךָ, pronounced ah-doh-NAI shom-REH-kha), which means “The LORD Is Your Keeper.” The word Shomrecha comes from the Hebrew root Shamar, which means to guard, keep, protect, or watch over someone.
Psalm 121:5 tells us:
“The LORD watches over you—the LORD is your shade at your right hand.”
Psalm 121:5
Psalm 121 is such an encouraging passage. It reminds us that the Lord is always there for His children. He doesn’t get tired, He doesn’t need to sleep, and He never forgets about us. In fact, verse 4 tells us that the One who watches over Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps.
Think about how much comfort there is in that. Wherever we go, whatever we’re doing, we can know that the Lord is with us. We can start each morning knowing that He cares about the day ahead of us, and we can go to bed at night trusting Him with everything we’ve left unfinished.
Yeshua reminded His disciples of God’s personal care in Matthew 10:29–31. He spoke about the little sparrows and how even these small birds are not forgotten by the Father. Then He reminded His disciples that they were worth far more than many sparrows. If God cares about something as small as a sparrow, how much more does He care about us?
Of course, this doesn’t mean that every day will be easy. We all have our share of challenges. But it’s good to know that we don’t have to face them on our own. The Lord is always there to hear our prayers, give us wisdom, and help us along the way.
This week, let’s remember these words: Adonai Shomrecha — The LORD Is Your Keeper. Take them with you as you go about your day. And perhaps share them with someone who could use a little encouragement.
We can also make this a simple prayer for the people we love. As they leave for work, travel, or go about their daily lives, we can ask the Lord to watch over them and guide their steps.
Our prayer this week: Heavenly Father, thank You for loving us and watching over us each day. Thank You that we can always turn to You and trust You with our lives. Please watch over our families and friends, guide our steps, and help us to remember that You are always near. In Yeshua’s name, Amen.
