Humility, Authority, and God’s Calling | Torah Reading with Pastor Israel Pochtar

Why does God care so much about humility?

In this week’s Torah Reading, Parashat Korach (Numbers 16:1–18:32), we encounter a powerful account of rebellion, leadership, and God’s established order. Korach and his followers challenge Moses and Aaron, questioning the authority God had entrusted to them. What follows reveals an important truth that remains relevant for every generation: God’s Kingdom is built on humility, not ambition.

At the heart of Korach’s rebellion was a desire for position rather than a willingness to faithfully embrace God’s calling. His story reminds us that pride can lead us away from God’s purposes, while humility opens the door to His blessing and direction.

God confirms His chosen order through powerful signs, including the miraculous blossoming of Aaron’s staff. The staff that once appeared lifeless suddenly produces buds, blossoms, and fruit—a beautiful picture of how God brings life and fruitfulness through those He calls.

Most importantly, this Torah portion points us to Yeshua. Though He possessed all authority, Yeshua never sought His own glory. He walked in complete obedience to the Father, demonstrating perfect humility and servant leadership. Through His life, we see what true authority looks like in God’s Kingdom.

In this teaching you’ll discover:
• The deeper meaning behind Korach’s rebellion
• Why pride is spiritually dangerous

• The significance of Aaron’s blossoming staff
