Parashat Yitro (Exodus 18:1 – 20:23)
Theme: Encountering God and Receiving His Instruction
There are moments in Scripture when God reveals not only His power, but also His heart. This week’s Torah portion is one of those defining moments. In this reading, we see the weight of leadership that Moses carries as he governs the people of Israel, and the wise, timely counsel from his father-in-law, Yitro (Jethro), reminding him that he was never meant to lead alone. A lesson we all must be reminded of at times.
Teaching Summary:
Yitro teaches that…
• God values wise counsel
• Leadership is shared, not solitary
• Holiness flows from God’s presence
• Torah reveals God’s heart
