Meeting the Author

“Do you know that this book brings life?” Ira asked gently. “My life changed because I met its author, Yeshua. Would you also like to meet Him?” Katrina had only come to the event because she wanted to support the orphans. She was a refugee from Ukraine herself and felt a longing to help them if she could. As she was leaving, the Bibles on the table drew her attention. Katrina ran her hand over the cover, trying to remember what she knew about this book. That is when she heard the woman ask the question that would make her rethink everything she thought she knew.

Orphaned But Not Forgotten
As a congregation, we decided to host a large group of Ukrainian orphans for an evening of entertainment and fun. Our aim was to put smiles on their faces and assure them that they were loved and not forgotten. We partnered with an organization in Ukraine that arranges for these orphans to visit congregations that wanted to help support them and offered to put on an event to bring joy to these little ones’ lives.

God’s peace and comfort flowed throughout the room that evening as we gathered to bring love and comfort to these hurting children. The squeals of laughter and joyful faces testified to the event’s success. We were amazed at the turnout of the locals who also came to show their care and support for these struggling orphans.

As the event came to a close, we placed Bibles on a table for any of the visiting families to take home. One of our dear sisters, Ira, handed a Bible to a woman passing by the table. The woman, Katarina, also once a refugee from Ukraine, took the Bible and cradled it tenderly in her arms. She could see a mixture of curiosity and hope in the woman’s eyes. Sensing a connection, Ira felt led to speak to her about the life-changing book she now held in her hands.

The Next Question
“Do you know that this book brings life?” Ira began. Katarina assured her she was familiar with the Bible. She was already a believer and had even been baptized. The Holy Spirit quickly prompted Ira to ask a more pointed question, one that would reveal the true nature and understanding of the redemption Yesha offered. “Have you ever prayed and invited Yeshua into your heart, asking Him to change your life as the Bible says?” Ira asked, hoping to guide her towards a deeper understanding of faith. Katarina shook her head slowly. “No, never.”

Seeing the door the Holy Spirit had opened, Ira called over two sisters of faith to share Gods’ beautiful plan of salvation through His son, Yeshua. Understanding flooded Katarina’s face as the Gospel penetrated her heart. When we had finished, she boldly announced she was ready to receive Him as her Lord and Savior. After we had prayed, Katarina practically radiated from the joy and peace she had received from meeting Yeshua, the author of her new-found salvation.

Even though she had been about to leave when Ira first approached her, it was clear that Katarina did not want to leave now. She was hungry for more of the Lord and fellowship with her new-found family. One of the members of our congregation, Nastya, exchanged phone numbers with her and agreed to meet at a coffee shop the next day to continue the conversation. Glory to God for the work He has begun in this new believer and child of the King.
