The Favor of God

Enemies Become Friends

Our enemies will become our friends when the favor of God is on our lives. This is evident in David’s story with the Philistines. David had slaughtered Goliath, their local giant-hero, but was later able to establish an agreement with Maok, King of Gath. Because the favor of God was with David, it allowed him and his men to settle in the land of his former enemies safely.

“So David and the six hundred men with him left and went over to Achish son of Maok king of Gath. David and his men settled in Gath with Achish.”

1 Samuel 27:2-3

This scripture shows us that the Philistines gave refuge to King David, even though they were once enemies. He would make his base among them, go out to wars, then return and dwell among them. It was an incredible chapter of David’s story. The city of Gath had a significant place in David’s life and journey. It became his home during an important season in his life.

The lesson we learn from this story is the importance of not closing doors or burning our bridges with people. We must keep ourselves open to see what God is going to do. He will use certain situations and people in our lives in ways we could never have imagined, even with our enemies.

The Lord God is Almighty! He is able to use those who wronged you and turn them into friends or those who benefit you on your journey. Seek the favor of God to see what amazing miracles He can work in your life.
