What happens when one chapter of life comes to an end? Could God already be preparing something new?
In this week’s Torah Reading, V’Zot HaBerachah (Deuteronomy 33:1–34:12), we reach the final portion of the Torah and the closing chapter of Moses’ remarkable journey.
Before his death, Moses blesses the tribes of Israel, reminds them that the eternal God is their refuge, and looks upon the Promised Land from Mount Nebo. His journey ends, but God’s purposes continue as Joshua prepares to lead the next generation.
One chapter closes. Another begins. And God remains faithful through it all.
In this special Simchat Torah teaching from Israel, Pastor Israel Pochtar explores:
• Why Moses’ final words were words of blessing
• What V’Zot HaBerachah means
• How the eternal God remains our refuge and strength
• Why faithfulness matters even when we don’t see every promise fulfilled
• What Moses teaches us about finishing well
• The importance of preparing the next generation
• How Jesus demonstrated perfect faithfulness and entrusted His mission to His disciples
• Why the end of the Torah cycle is also a new beginning
Moses did not personally enter the Promised Land, yet he faithfully completed his journey. Joshua would continue leading Israel forward, reminding us that God’s purposes are greater than any one person or generation.
We see this same principle in Jesus (Yeshua), who faithfully completed the work given to Him by the Father and commissioned His disciples to carry the Good News to the nations.
As we celebrate Simchat Torah and complete another cycle of reading God’s Word, we are reminded that our journey of faith never truly ends. We continue learning, growing, and passing His truth to those who come after us.
The final words of Deuteronomy lead us back to the opening words of Genesis:
“In the beginning…”
May we finish faithfully, bless the next generation, and never lose our hunger for God’s Word.
The Torah cycle ends, but our journey with God continues.
