Willing Hearts Build God’s Dwelling | Torah Insight with Pastor Israel Pochtar

What does it mean to build something God will dwell in?
This week’s Torah portion, Vayakhel, reveals how willing hearts and Spirit-led lives prepare a place for God’s presence.

This week’s Torah portion, Vayakhel (Exodus 35:1–38:20), begins with a powerful moment—God’s people are gathered together.

But before any work begins, Moses reminds them of something essential: Shabbat.

Rest comes first.

In a world that pushes us toward constant activity, this portion shows us a different rhythm—God’s work does not flow from exhaustion, but from rest in Him.

From there, the people respond with generosity. Not out of pressure, but from willing hearts. Scripture uses the word nedavah—a freewill offering. This kind of giving is not forced; it is joyful, personal, and sincere.

And something beautiful happens.

Men and women begin to bring what they have. Skilled artisans step forward. Wisdom—chokhmah—is given for the work. Every person, every gift, every willing heart becomes part of what God is building.

The Tabernacle was not built by one person. It was built by a people—gathered, willing, and led by God’s Spirit.

And this points us to Yeshua.

Today, God is still building His dwelling—not through a structure, but through people. Through lives surrendered to Him. Through hearts that are willing, and hands that are ready to serve.

Each of us has a place in what God is doing.

This portion reminds us:
God gathers His people with purpose.
Giving flows from willing hearts.
And wisdom builds what God desires to inhabit.
